Before Surgery Checklist


To prevent delay or cancellations, please follow these guidelines before surgery.


Food and Drink

You may eat a light meal before 11:00 pm the night before your surgery. Do not drink or eat anything after midnight—no coffee or water.  When brushing teeth, please be sure not to swallow or ingest any water.

Pain patients may have clear liquids –no dairy, cream or fats– six (6) hours prior to your procedure IF you are having sedation.


Alcohol

Do not drink alcohol for at least 12 hours before your arrival.


Smoking/Tobacco

No smoking/tobacco after midnight the night before your surgery.


Clothing

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes including low-heeled comfortable shoes. Shirts or blouses with buttons in front are usually best. When you arrive, we will provide you with a surgical gown and non-slip socks to wear during your visit.

Checklist before leaving home:

  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes.
  • Leave all jewelry (including body piercings) and valuable at home.
  • Bring cases for eyeglasses, contacts and dentures.
  • Remove makeup and nail polish
  • Bring insurance ID cards.
  • Photo ID.
  • Co-Payments, if required.
  • Make sure you have a ride home and someone to care for you following surgery.  Do not plan to use taxis, UBER or other public transportation.

If the patient cannot speak English, read or is hearing impaired an interpreter is required. If you need assistance arranging for an interpreter, please contact the Scheduling department as soon as possible
